Well hello everyone!!! I just checked the last time I wrote one of these things and it was a month ago?!?!?!? What was I thinking leaving you all in the dark for a month??? Oh my goodness...well, let me catch you all up-to-date on what's been going on.
As you probably read in the previous blog, I was part of a production (which was part of a theatre festival called Under the Radar at The Public Theatre) called "Church" written and directed by Young Jean Lee. It was a really fun experience and very exciting to have done a production in the ever-so-well-known Public Theatre. So a BIG THANKS to Young Jean Lee and everyone who was a part of the production. I had a GREAT time!!!
Other then that, I've been working (bartending/cocktail waitressing). Exciting, right??? It is...don't jump out of your chairs, it's OK. But I'm still struggling to make ends meat so I was thinking of babysitting. If anyone lives in the Park Slope/Brooklyn area and you know parents who need someone, feel free to have them contact me. Other then that, I went on a couple auditions here and there and was even lucky enough to get called back for American Girl Place a few weeks ago. Haven't heard anything (and most likely won't at this point) but it was exciting. I was more surprised to get a phone call since I had auditioned for them back in November/December (one of those months).
A piece of exciting news: I will be part of a cabaret on March 11th at 7pm at Don't Tell Mama located on 46th st. between 8th and 9th Ave. if anyone would like to come. It is hosted by Seth Bisen-Hersh (www.sethbh.com). I'm looking forward to it. I've never done a cabaret before so this is something totally new for me (thus making it EXCITING!!!). I do know that there is a cover charge (I think $10) and a 2 drink minimum...CASH ONLY!!! For those of you short on cash, don't sweat it. I just need to find 5 paying customers to come and then I'm good to go. So if you don't have any plans that night, come on out. I'd love to see you!!! And let me know if you can make it.
I recently (aka- today) started going on auditions...and I mean GOING to auditions. A friend of mine and I have kind of "buddied up" and literally sat down on Thursday with our organizers and this week's issue of Backstage spread across the table and went through the entire thing deciding which auditions we should hit up. We also met a really nice girl (her name is Aimee) last week and have befriended her thus adding to our little "buddy system". It was such a great feeling today going to these auditions (and getting out WAY earlier then we expected...awesome, right???) and then doing my errands and whatever I needed to do. I came home with a few more things to do before finally settling down to catch all of you loyal readers out there up on what's been happening and as I was walking out there door, I felt like a completely different person just because of the fact that I kept accomplishing everything I wanted to do today. It was a satisfying yet strange feeling all rolled into one. And as my boyfriend (the wonderful guy that he is...FYI- we celebrated our 3 year anniversary yesterday...just wanted to share that with all of you) asked if I was working today, I stopped, thought about for a minute and answered "Technically, yes. But not in the traditional sense in that I'd be making money." The great thing about being with someone who is also in the business, is that they understand what that means. He knew that although I wasn't out "making money", my job for today was to go out there and be an actress and audition. And audition I did. And tomorrow. And Wednesday. And Thursday. I told you I was going to do this. And it really helps to have a buddy. It's true. So for all of you out there who roll over and hit the "off" button on your alarms....NO MORE!!! Find a buddy (someone you trust and vice versa) who is SERIOUS about this and won't (pardon the French) fuck you over, and GO!!! Every audition is an experience, exposure (to other actors/networking and those in the business) and can even be fun (and SHOULD be fun). So get out there and let me know how you're doing.
Until next time.........
