Wow...I can't believe the last time I updated you all was way back on May 30th. I apologize for the long gap in entries but time has flown by and I've been busy, busy, busy.
We'll just do a quick review on what's been going on for the past month plus. I've been working a lot these days (most recently, I just finished working 10 days straight working-literally-day and night for most of them) so needless to say, I've been exhausted and actually took off of work today. I felt that I ran myself into the ground and needed that one extra day to catch up on life.
I did go on a couple auditions during this gap of time...not too many. Practically everything has been cast so I'm going on auditions as they come but viewing the summer as "taking time off" and getting ready for the fall when things will begin to pick up again. I did get a callback for a company called Blume Media Group. This particular audition was fun because not only did we sing (and not have a limit) but we got to do an improve as well. And for those who know me, I LOVE doing improve. It's so much fun. So I'm waiting in line (even though earlier I was ready to leave since time was ticking, I had to babysit, and I was tired...blah blah blah....wound up staying) and I'm hearing people do FULL songs. Even though we were able to do as much as we wanted, I still did 16 bars. To me, I would rather do enough for them to hear me and if they wanted to hear more, I would feel great if they asked to hear something else rather then being bored by the full song and/or cutting me off. Just my thought and advice on that one. Anyway, it seemed that the trend for the improves were "Blah, blah, blah.....and you're naked." or "Blah, blah, blah...and they're naked" OR "Use this object as something other then what it is" (i.e.-a big bubble blower....so much you could do there...). So my scenario was that my boyfriend and I (awesome!!!) are at "Lovers Peak" (OK) and we're naked in the car (Of course) and we get busted by the cops (Oh, great!!!). So I didn't even hesitate and flipped and straddled the chair (mind you, I'm in a dress...but I don't care...) and start. I thought my improve was great and I'm sure that's what got me a callback. Even though I didn't book the job, just getting the callback really boosted me up a bit. So now I'm looking into classes at the Upright Citizens Brigade or possible doing something else...not sure. Any advice???
I also wrapped up that "reality series" I had mentioned awhile back. To be honest, I don't really want to get into it because it's still frustrating to know that I was part of something that was 1) so disorganize 2) so half-assed and 3) what felt like a waste of my time in some respects. So we'll just leave it at...I did it, it's over, on to other things now. I also went on a commercial audition which was interesting. I felt that the director of the commercial had either smoked one-too-many joints in his life and/or still was....his direction was very vague and there were times I found myself going, "What is this guy talking about???" I didn't book the job but it was a good learning experience for me.
Since I last wrote, I have quit my cocktail waitressing job and have begun bartending at a new place called Garfield's in Brooklyn. It's (literally) down the street from me. It takes me 2 minutes to get to work...it's great. I enjoy working there and I especially enjoy the company of my co-workers Liz, K.C. and Jason. We all have a great time and what's even better is we're all laughs and jokes and giggles but when it comes down to it, we all put our heads down and get to work. Then at the end of the night we laugh about the dumb stuff that happened or we saw...and trust me...we see A LOT.
A couple fun things happened during this time. Jon and I had the chance to see "Boeing, Boeing". If any of you have the opportunity, GO!!!! It was such an enjoyable night of theatre and too see comedy done right and done by great people = AMAZING-NESS!!!! It was sooooo good and our faces and sides were hurting from laughing and smiling the whole time. Absolutely fantastic.
We also went to a shooting range one day. And probably like the others whom I've told of this adventure you're probably going, "What??? WHY???" and my answer is, "Well, why NOT???" We shot .22m rifles and it was pretty damn cool. And it'll be a fun thing to have on my resume now, that's for sure. I was a little nervous going on but once I got in there and began to shoot, magic happened. I thoroughly enjoyed myself as did Jon and we will most definitely be going back and shooting again. We would love to learn how to properly shoot a handgun one day....you never know if one or both of us will do TV or films and need to know this kind of stuff. Better to be prepared then not, right???
So this pretty much sums of the past month plus. I promise you, now that it seems like the waters have calmed a little, I will be writing a bit more frequently. Until then.................................................
